CASE STUDY: A&M McFerrin Plaza

Texas A&M McFerrin Plaza: Honoring Tradition with Top-Tier Quality
The Project
At Texas A&M University, where history, pride, and tradition define the spirit of the 12th Man, every detail of the campus experience matters. When the university set out to create McFerrin Plaza, a key space for visitors and athletes alike, they needed a signage system that embodied the Aggie legacy while maintaining durability and precision.
As a long-standing partner to Texas A&M, Highpoint was entrusted to deliver a cohesive suite of dimensional, directional, and recognition signage that would reflect the university’s bold identity and enduring traditions, all under a tight installation timeline.
Our Approach: Top-Tier Quality Meets Customer-First Service
At Highpoint, our Customer First Approach guides everything we do. From the earliest stages of project planning, our team worked hand in hand with Texas A&M to understand their exact needs, align with brand standards, and ensure that every material, finish, and design detail exceeded expectations.
Our commitment to Top Tier Quality meant no shortcuts, only craftsmanship that would withstand the Texas elements and stand proudly alongside one of the nation’s most iconic athletic programs. We take pride in being part of a project that not only elevates the Aggie experience but also reflects the excellence Texas A&M demands from every partner.
A Complex, Multi-Faceted Project
The McFerrin Plaza project included a wide range of signage types, each requiring unique materials, fabrication techniques, and installation processes. Highpoint managed each component with precision and care, balancing creative design with functional performance.
Column Signs
Texas A&M had existing column signs from the original stadium renovation, and Highpoint was asked to match them with seven new donor recognition columns. Each column was fabricated from aluminum with steel center support poles, then sandblasted to reveal donor names, logos, and inscriptions. Finally, aluminum lettering and plaques were added to complete the structures, seamlessly integrating the new pieces with the existing environment.
Pavement Inlays
To complement the surrounding architecture, steel lettering was inset into the concrete in front of Watts Plaza and McFerrin Plaza. Highpoint cut ¼-inch steel letters, applied a textured powder coat for a clean, anti-slip finish, and installed them onto custom support structures before the concrete was poured. The result is a permanent and refined statement that enhances the entry experience.
12th Man Monument
This freestanding monument is a custom welded aluminum structure featuring 3D letters finished on both sides. Powder-coated for weather resistance and longevity, the monument also includes secondary lettering to recognize donors. The piece stands as a centerpiece of the plaza and a proud tribute to the legacy of the 12th Man.
Awning-Mounted Building IDs
Highpoint fabricated and installed channel letter building identification signage for both the Cooledge and Clark facilities. The Cooledge building features bottom-mounted channel lettering that both stands and hangs from the awning, finished on both sides and supported by a custom steel rail system for durability and precision alignment. The Clark building includes top-mounted channel lettering with dual-sided finishes and steel supports, designed to maintain visual balance and consistency across the complex.
Monument Signs
Each monument sign was designed to incorporate the stonework architecture of the site. Two featured fabricated aluminum cabinets mounted atop stone bases with dimensional lettering, while the third was a solid stone monument with freestanding letters installed directly on top. These structures provided visual anchors throughout the plaza, blending durability with refined design.
